Key Features
The Pittsburgh Modular Lifeforms MIDI 3 is a MIDI to CV converter packed with a variety of useful features. The MIDI 3 features 3 distinct modes including monophonic and duophonic MIDI response modes, as well as an arpeggiator mode. The MIDI 3 also has 3 different clock modes including internal clock, external midi clock, external gate clock that can be used to clock the arpeggiator. The MIDI 3 is a useful module allowing you to convert MIDI note messages into the analog control voltages used by modular and analog synthesizers.

When in monophonic mode, the module outputs a single CV and gate signal based on the active MIDI note. Monophonic mode works best for a single voice synth patch and has several keyboard responses for you to choose from. The EDIT button can be used to switch between the different response types and select what type of note priority you want. You can choose between last note priority (with or without gate retrigger), low note priority (with or without gate retrigger), and high note priority (with or without gate retrigger).
Duophonic mode allows for 2 notes to be played simultaneously, ideal for playing pad patches. The MIDI 3 outputs a pair of CV and gate signals based on 2 active MIDI notes in this mode. Channel 1 and Channel 2 CV and gate outputs work together to provide a duophonic response. Duophonic mode features 3 response types including unused channel and new note priority, unused channel and low note priority, and split keyboard allowing for different ways for the notes played to react.
The arpeggiator modes cycle through up to 10 single notes when multiple keys are pressed together. The HOLD function enables the arpeggiator to cycle through the last set of selected notes. Arpeggiator modes provides 5 different response modes with mono and duophonic responses to choose from. These include monophonic response as played, duophonic as played, double triggered monophonic response as played, random monophonic response, random monophonic with a random channel 2 gate, and random duophonic response with dual random gates. Additionally the arpeggiator can be clocked by either the internal tap tempo, external midi clock, or external gate.
The MIDI 3 features 3 different clock sources used to clock the arpeggiator; internal, external MIDI, and external gate. The first clock source is the internal clock which utilises the TAP tempo button to modify the rate of the internal clock. The external MIDI clock response to MIDI start/stop messages and midi tempo from en external MIDI clock source and the TAP tempo button can be used to switch between 5 available clock divisions. The external gate clock responds to gate signal patched into the CLOCK jack and the TAP tempo button allows you to switch through the 6 available clock divisions.
The MIDI 3 features an edit mode that for modifying the MIDI channel, pitch bend range, control change (CC) number, and clock source parameters. Hold down the EDIT button to enabled edit mode then you can tap the button to cycle through the different parameters that you want to modify.
