Experience authentic tape movement
Varispeed recreates the relationship between tape transport speed and sound that defined many vintage echo machines. As you adjust the motor speed, delay time changes alongside bandwidth, noise levels, and pitch stability. This creates a more dynamic and interactive response than a standard delay pedal.
Small adjustments can subtly reshape the character of your repeats, while more extreme settings introduce darker textures and increased instability. The result is an effect that responds in a natural and musical way, closely reflecting the behaviour of real tape-based equipment.
Control every stage of wear
The HISS and WEAR controls give you detailed control over the condition of the virtual tape machine. Increase the HISS setting to introduce the background noise associated with ageing tape systems. Adjust WEAR to add saturation and mechanical imperfections that bring extra character to your repeats.
These controls work together to create sounds ranging from clean and controlled delays to heavily aged echoes with enhanced movement and texture. It is an effective way to shape the personality of the effect without relying on additional processing.
Build complex delay textures
Three playback heads provide access to a broad range of delay timings and repeat patterns. You can create rhythmic echoes, layered ambient sounds, or spacious delay textures that add depth to your playing.
Different playback head combinations unlock new sonic possibilities while remaining straightforward to use. Because each repeat is influenced by the pedal's tape modelling behaviour, the resulting delays retain the character, variation, and evolving qualities associated with classic tape echo designs.
Preserve your original tone
The Crumar FX Series is designed to reproduce the behaviour of classic hardware as accurately as possible. Rather than focusing only on tone, Varispeed recreates the timing characteristics, mechanical interactions, and imperfections that made vintage machines so distinctive.
Throughout all of this, your dry signal remains on a fully analog path, maintaining the integrity of your instrument's sound. This combination of analog signal preservation and detailed effect modelling provides an authentic playing experience with the responsiveness players expect from classic delay units.
