The sE8 Omni's carefully designed omnidirectional polar pattern is close to spherical, giving you consistent pickup around the microphone. That makes positioning more flexible when you want to record the character of an instrument alongside the surrounding room.
Its precision acoustic components are designed to keep colouration to a minimum, resulting in a balanced representation of your source and recording environment. This approach is particularly useful for orchestras, ensembles, and choirs, where a natural sense of space matters. You can also use it on solo instruments and lead vocals when you want transparent sound with the acoustic environment included.
Hear fast transients and subtle detail clearly
At the centre of the design is a hand-crafted small-diaphragm true condenser capsule. Each capsule is individually tuned, with an ultra-thin gold-sputtered diaphragm helping it respond quickly to changes in level. That fast transient response is useful when recording cymbals, drums, percussion, and other sources with sharp attacks, while also helping preserve quieter nuances.
An ultra-precision electrode is designed for linear performance and natural sonics, giving you a smooth, balanced frequency response. Combined with the microphone's broad dynamic capabilities, this lets you capture both delicate performances and more demanding sources without sacrificing the detail that gives each recording its character.
Keep recordings clean across demanding sessions
A short signal path, specially optimised Class-A electronics, and a design without integrated circuits keep self-noise extremely low. The transformerless circuitry also supports transparent, clear reproduction, helping the microphone capture your source without adding unnecessary character. High dynamic range and strong transient handling make the sE8 Omni useful across sessions with significant changes in volume.
You can move between delicate ensemble passages and hard-hitting percussion while retaining clarity. This low-noise performance is particularly handy when recording quieter sources, where microphone noise can become more noticeable after adding gain during tracking or processing later in your mix.
Adapt quickly to loud sources and unwanted lows
Two switchable attenuation levels give you extra headroom when recording loud sources, helping prevent your mixer or microphone preamp from overloading. That means you can position the microphone close to brass, timpani, and drums when the session calls for it.
You also get selectable 80Hz and 160Hz low-cut filters, letting you reduce footfall noise, rumble, or excess low-frequency energy before it reaches your recording chain. An all-metal housing helps reject electrical interference while providing the durability needed for regular studio and touring work. Plus, the gold-plated XLR connection provides a dependable, low-loss signal connection for long-term use.
